Do You Have More to Share?

“You don't make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.”
― Shirley Chisholm

When I do workshops or teach class. Some people will whisper on the side lines to someone. This is the most annoying action a person can make. People pay to come and listen and this action takes the energy from all the people into a place of not paying attention because of the disturbing nuisance. Please think of the person doing the lecture and give them your complete attention. How can you learn if you are talking and not taking in the complete understanding of what the person is saying. Bring what you are saying forward and you will be surprised at what you have said when others do not agree with you.

Astrology of the Week! Mercury Goes Direct and New Beginnings!

There's so much to celebrate today!

April 15th~ It's the New Moon in Aries! Yet first, the good news - Mercury is going direct. Woo-hoo! I mean, really!

Mercury Retrograde is such a fertile time to re-evaluate all aspects of your life, especially how you communicate with others. And yet, it's certainly not easy! Mercury governs your mind. Perhaps you felt all over the place the last three weeks. One minute something may have felt stable, and the next minute - quicksilver changes.

Hooray! Mercury goes direct today, so it's full speed ahead. You can feel much more yourself again. And get some clear headed thinking about your plans.
And talk about full speed ahead, it's an Aries New Moon! Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, so the New Moon in this initiating sign really kicks off the astrological year.
Start this new cycle with clear intentions about how you are going to believe in yourself and take action to fulfill your dreams. Aries doesn't wait for approval from others and neither should you!

Make this a wonderful day, and enjoy every minute of this uplifting energy!

A Letter About Being Young at Heart from Hay House CEO

I want you to read a heart felt letter from a friend who just wrote me...

"Hello Barbara,
I was recently listening to a song by Luke Bryan called Most People Are Good. I love the title of this song. It’s something I truly believe.

We all hear and see so many negative things on the news and in newspapers. Sometimes, it’s hard to remember that most people are good and want to help their family and others live a better life.
There are several other good lines in the song such as…

'I believe kids oughta stay kids as long as they can, turn off the screen, go climb a tree, get dirt on their hands.'

To me this is the biggest thing many kids miss out on these days, because they are constantly on their electronic devices. Even if they are outside, they are often still staring at screens. I personally love it when I am out in nature without a cell signal!
'I believe we gotta forgive and make amends, 'cause nobody gets a second chance to make new old friends.'

This is so true! It’s completely impossible to make a new old friend, although sometimes a new friend can feel like an old friend when you truly connect with them. Such a great feeling to have.

'I believe that youth is spent well on the young, 'cause wisdom in your teens would be a lot less fun.'

I always tell my kids—Dane and Ava, who are now 18 and 16—when you get older, you are going to realize that may not have been the greatest decision! But this line in the song is still so true.

Looking back at my youth, I now realize that many of my big lessons happened while doing things my parents tried to help me avoid. I guess we all need to let our kids make more mistakes… although, that’s a tough reality to accept.

'I believe if you just go by the nightly news, your faith in all mankind would be the first thing you lose.'

I wish there was a way to get more positivity in the national media so that people could have more hope. I guess that’s why we have so many people listening to Hay House Radio!

Let’s spend this week focusing on all the wonderful, positive things we have in our lives and remember… most people (truly) are good.

Reid Tracy
CEO, Hay House "

Thought you would all to read and meditate on this song.
Remembering Love is there for you to enjoy.
Missing all my friends on face book will be back to bringing you words of wisdom soon.
Doing Readings again if anyone is interested and back to Angelica sometime in May.
Love to you all.

Empaths and Psychic Vampires

"By now, you probably know whether or not you’re an empath. And believe me, this matters a lot! Why? Because if you are an empath, you are the favored prey of energy vampires. Energy vampires…what are they?

As a good empath, it is easy for you to believe the best about others. Everyone is pure at heart. Everyone is born good. This can seem true… but in reality, there are certain people in our midst who lack the capacity to think in such loving terms. Energy vampires often give themselves away by saying things such as “I don’t care” when asked about others and their problems. Energy vampires have one thing in mind… themselves. Their main mission is to prop up their ego, and they will do it in every way possible.

Their favorite way? Finding lovely, helpful empaths who stroke their egos and shine the floodlight of loving attention on their lives. Energy vampires have mastered attention-getting. They do it so well, you won’t always know they are in a bid for your attention. Your solution? Trust your instincts and your well-honed intuition.

How to spot an energy vampire? Energy vampires are often charming, good-looking, charismatic, and outgoing. They often have hypnotic eyes that draw you in to whatever they are saying. They may hold high positions in government, business, religion, the military, and medicine. Think CEO of a Fortune 500 company. Or prominent political figure. Charismatic vampires tend to surround themselves with followers who hang on their every word. These minions often do the bidding of the vampire, just like the flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz. These are aggressive energy vampires."
Excerpted from Dodging Energy Vampires.

Then we will have passive energy vampires. They portray themselves as victims. Empaths again will seek to aid those in need, they just have to be careful of only helping those who want to help themselves. Many passive vampires will seek out attention by playing the victim.

They seek out listeners who will feel their pain. Empaths who are naturally happy people may make the mistake to offer guidance to these passive vampires; for they know they would not want to always feel that way themselves. They will try to make the passive vampire as happy as they feel by suggesting ways and paths the passive vampire can try to reverse what they perceive as the pain they feel. After many years of having a passive vampire as a friend they will notice that the passive vampire has not grown or very little and still has a daily or weekly catastrophe. An empath will feel drained after the conversation and the passive vampire will be skipping away after the conversation with new found energy.

No matter how much advice an empath may offer, the passive energy vampire will never listen. They only wait for their turn to speak again. They will interrupt the empath or the other in the conversation because it is too important for them not to forget what is on their mind by waiting for their turn to speak. At times you will find a passive energy vampire by their inability to think that speaking to you for a half hour and only letting you ad a nod, a yep, or oh into the conversation is normal and fair to you.

Conversation means to verse or talk with someone, not at. Same with dialogue: two people talking. The passive emotional vampire may or may not know this, but they will be compelled to talk at you and talk over you if you try to speak. Their emotions always will override you or even just the truth of logic.

You can spot them on the street. They are the ones who are dying to make contact with anyone and will tell you their horrible life story within the first 5 minutes of you knowing them. you can just feel the dark cloud around them.

In relationships the aggressive energy vampire is very affront in his actions to hurt you and the passive energy vampire is very subtle. The first will eviscerate you emotionally once lured in and the passive will do the same, but will just creep up on you. Together the aggressive strikes first and the passive waits to spring its revenge. The aggressive feels attacked when it was actually trying to be kind and attacks again in revenge. The cycle goes on and gets destructive. The phrase, "Who is the slayer, who is the victim? Speak!" fits this relationship. So both will seek empaths and those who feel very little like those with Aspergers Syndrome.

"When you’re looking at your relationships and your interactions with someone whom you suspect to be an aggressive energy vampire, look for the use of these common manipulation tactics: Being aggressive or covertly aggressive to get their own way. The need to always “win.” They won’t take “no” for an answer, and if you try to resist, they wear you down until you give up. Lies that portray them in the best light, no matter what the situation—or their real part in it. Blaming others for their own hurtful actions. Laying on guilt trips in order to make you feel bad. "
Excerpted from Dodging Energy Vampires.

When you're looking at your relationships and interactions with someone whom you suspect to be a passive energy vampire, look for the use of these common manipulation tactics: always sharing their pain, not listening, talking over you,  always in trouble, sharing with others what they told you in strict confidence, latching from one person to another, they make you feel like your walking on eggshells, always taking actions to keep them in a depressed or dangerous state, and they do not like things to get better or worse in their life, and they are very draining.

Getting attention from someone with an energy vampire’s qualities can be flattering at first, especially if you are not used to it. This person likes me? Not so fast. Energy vampires are never really interested in us. They are interested in how you make them feel, while they are plugging into and draining your energy. That’s right…energy vampires thrive by stealing your energy.

Empaths can transform negative energy quicker than others. They are also very highly looked upon in the community, if they know it or not. They have an invisible shine that can be felt by others. They tend to have great self respect and natural talents. People are drawn to them. There is a lot to feed on for an energy vampire. Why does People Magazine or the like want to rip Tom Cruise apart instead the homeless guy on Fifth and Main Streets? Because Tom Cruise has more energy to steal from. Empaths are like the Tom Cruises to the energy vampires. Empaths have lots of energy, they transfer negative emotions quick, and fill up quicker once drained.

I call the energy they drain from us their “narcissistic supply.” Energy vampires are thrilled when you admire, fawn over and spend your time occupied with their life and problems. Finally, someone who gets how important they are! The trouble is… they’re a bottomless pit, and no matter how hard you try, you can never solve their issues for real. Energy vampires are great at creating problems, and they are only interested in the appearance of wanting solutions when it jeopardizes their narcissistic supply.

That is, if you are threatening to take yourself away from them, they’ll do just about anything to make you stay. Never believe an energy vampire when they promise they will change. “Change” is simply not in their playbook. Stay tuned for my next email, where I explore the dynamic between the empath and the energy vampire. If you’ve found yourself mixed up with one, I will show how you can extricate yourself. You can learn about this topic and more in Christiane Northrup M.D. new book, Dodging Energy Vampires: An Empath’s Guide to Evading Relationships That Drain You and Restoring Your Health and Power

This book teaches you, in-depth, how to: Identify if you are an empath and what that means. Connect with your emphatic intuition to become an energy vampire heat seeker who can spot a vampire across the room, before they strike. Find your inner strength and heal your wounds, shame and guilt so that you become invulnerable to energy vampires. Excellent book to look into thought I would share with you all.

The Way of Inspiration

"It’s important to note that whatever is needed to fulfill our calling is part of the present process. Arthur Miller, who was perhaps the most accomplished dramatist in the U.S., is an example of a man who knew this. In an interview late in his life, he was asked, “Are you working on a new play?” Mr. Miller’s answer went something like this: “I don’t know if I am or not, but I probably am.” This delightful response suggests that Miller’s writing came from inspiration—that is, something other than ego spurred him on.
By contrast, highly motivated people have a kind of ego determination driving them over obstacles and toward goals—nothing gets in their way. Now, most of us have been taught that this is an admirable trait; in fact, when we’re not accomplishing and demonstrating drive and ambition, we’ve been told to “get motivated!” Lectures, books, videos, and audio recordings abound that preach that all we have to do is dedicate ourselves to an idea with actions designed to make it a reality. This is a beneficial approach for a different level of accomplishment—but what we’re exploring in these pages is what leads us to precisely what we’re meant to be and do . . . our ultimate calling.

If motivation is grabbing an idea and carrying it through to an acceptable conclusion, then inspiration is the reverse. When we’re in the grip of inspiration, an idea has taken hold of us from the invisible reality of Spirit. Something that seems to come from afar, where we allow ourselves to be moved by a force that’s more powerful than our ego and all of its illusions, is inspiration. And being in-Spirit is the place where we connect to the invisible reality that ultimately directs us toward our calling. Often we can identify these inspired times by their insistence, and because they seem not to make sense while at the same time they keep appearing in our consciousness.

If we ignore inspiration’s powerful attraction, the result is personal discomfort or a sense of disconnection from ourselves. For any number of reasons, we might be resistant when we feel called to create, perform, visit a foreign place, meet someone, express ourselves, help another, or be a part of a cause. Inspiration is a calling to proceed even though we’re unsure of goals or achievements—it may even insist that we go in the direction of uncharted territory.

Throughout various stages of life, inspiration is the thought or idea reconnecting us to the energy we were part of prior to becoming a microscopic particle. I call this “surrendering to our destiny and allowing ourselves to hear the call.” At this point we can differentiate between the demands of our ego and those of the ego-dominated people and institutions that deflect us from the call of inspiration. As we move more deeply into Spirit, we cease to be guided by the ego demands of others or ourselves. We surrender to the always-present force that urges us to be in this blissful state of inspiration. We’re guided by our ultimate calling, which is truly our life purpose."
From the Master Wayne Dyer Words of Wisdom

Things to do in the Witch City!

Well here are a few tips from a Piney who moved to Salem 26 years ago!

Kayaking: The coves near Derby Wharf  and Collins Cove on either end of the peninsula are always like glass and are amazing. Make sure you row into the Juniper Neck area right before Winter Island with its majestic Victorian homes lit up at night. The coves are amazing when the stars reflect into the water where seals may swim next to you. Just be careful of the mudflats, so watch your tides. The mudflats extended out for a football field of mud that will suck your shoes into it at low tide. Safe, but aggravating. Also try kayaking under the Kernwood Bridge where you will see hundreds of starfish attached to the pylons.

Haunted Locations: There is Elsie who haunts the ladies room at Murphy's. She fell in from the Old Burial Point behind the bar. Then the Flushing Ghost at Turner's Seafood built on the grounds of Witchcraft Hysteria victim Bridget Bishop's apple orchard and the site of the first phone call. Another building attached to the tunnels in town. Then the tunnel over the graves of runaway slaves that the inventor of the souvenir spoon sealed shut under three feet of cement at Rockefellas. Maybe you can hear the ghosts of the marching band at the gazebo on the Common. How about a haunted parking lot? By the Salem Ferry was the most haunted house till it was torn down; now ghosts might steal your cellphone and throw it into the sea, or at least drain the battery quick. Also go visit my favorite tombstone. It is of a woman named Lizzy. All that is on the stone is her name and a finger pointing into the air. You can find it close to the old seawall nearest the old prison that houses the Bitbar 1980's arcade restaurant under a tree just off Bridge Street...

Plus there is countless haunted private homes...

Architecture and History: Make sure you visit the House of the Seven Gables and the Witch House. Both are First Period homes filled with gorgeous exposed beams and huge brick fireplaces you can cook in. At the House of Seven Gables you might learn what 'pop goes the weasel', 'Sleep tight, don't let the bed bites bite', why people slept in short beds, why the ceilings are so low, and that people were six feet tall then and lived sometimes to 100. There is a lot of secrets in the home Hawthorne was inspired by; including a secret staircase and a smuggling tunnel in the basement. The Witch House; a possible home of an alchemist. The judge along with many others who persecuted others for witchcraft owned the library of the biggest occult mage of the 1500's. Find out about the local superstitions of the time. This was originally before the judge the house of Roger Williams who founded Rhode Island, inspired Thomas Jefferson, and founded the Baptist Church. Salem residents kicked him out of town before the Witchcraft Hysteria due to the fact he believed in separation of Church and State and fair compensation to the Native Americans for their property. Make sure you attended their Erie Events with period actors telling ghost stories! Afterward, walk through the McIntire District and see all the homes connected to the tunnels in the town from the nineteenth century and before. Make sure you see the fairy tale carriage house on Bott's Court and the Ropes Garden on Essex Street. Also the neighborhood around the Seven Gables has some wonderful rustic colonial homes too. It is a good step back in time. Then step back further in time and visit Pioneer Village near Forest River Park, a 1600 village. Forest River Park was paid for by the woman who led the first archaeologic dig of the Pueblos. She had Fredrick Law Olmsted design the grounds, one of the many properties on the North Shore designed by him.

Inventors: Check out the site Tesla built a power plant at on the grounds of what is Shetland Properties now. Or how about the home of Moses Farmer on Pearl Street who invented the light bulb that Edison bought that lit up his house before anyone else in the world. Then on North Street next to the Speedway gas station is the home of the inventor of the #2 pencil, single lens reflex camera lens, and graphite crucible used to coin money, Joseph Dixon of Dixon Ticonderoga pencils. To find out about the castle built by Tesla's friend see our last entry for day trips outside of Salem.

Drinks: Stop of and get a drink at Jolie Tea net to the Hawthorne Hotel. Parisian themed little jaunt with chocolate, madeleines, scones, and 300 varieties of tea. Great place to chill and contemplate set in a building with another tunnel in the basement built by a man who shaped our national banking and was Secretary of the Navy. For something harder, see below.

Night Life: Make sure you hear some wonderful original music in a basement decorated by the Indian section of Pier One. Brick walls, shuffleboard, Prohibition Era cocktails, great selection of craft beers, and great music to dance to. At Opus Underground you might see Tigerman Woah, Absolute Gentlemen, and Freevolt. Also you might venture to Rockefellas and jam out in a haunted bar with a secret tunnel in the bar that was built in the first church in the country. In fact Opus was an underground train station attached to the 8 tunnel systems in Salem. Salem is an amazing place where members of Boston could of been heard regularly on a Wednesday if Peter Wolf was not filling in, Godsmack originally played in as a Alice in Chains cover band, Duke Ellington spent 5 summers playing down there at the Salem Willows, and a guy could tour the world with the Beatles and spend a few years in our local prison for shooting a witch.

Magic: Check out Wynotts Wand shop that could put Olivander's to shame. It is right next to Remember Salem which is a Harry Potter themed shop with a little Game of Thrones and Dr. Who thrown into the mix. For another type of magic check out the Magic Parlor on Essex Street for Hollywood make up and slights of hand tricks.

Tours: Try the Salem Smugglers Tour to learn about the real murder behind the game Clue, how residents of Salem shaped the Federal Reserve and the Bank of England, the roots of Skull & Bones, the beginning of our opioid crisis, northern cession, the Second Witchcraft Hysteria of 1811,  H.P. Lovecraft's Salem, the unaccounted for assassinations of three presidents, and the tunnels that made it all happen. The tour guide is the author of Salem Secret Underground:The History of the Tunnels in the City and Sub Rosa. You might of seen him walking through the tunnels with Robert Irvine on the Travel Channel. These are the tunnels that appear in Wicked Charms by Janet Evanovich, talked about in the Librarians TV Show, and Carol Perry's Witch City Mysteries. Also for something different try Sinister Stories led by a singing Quaker in Plain Clothes.

Day Trips: Now just across the Beverly Salem Bridge to the right is the entrance to Rt #127. Just go across in front of Dane Street Beach and head right on Hale Street to begin your journey up the Gold Coast of Boston. A winding road filled with mansions of the gilded age along the ocean. On the way make sure you stop at Rafe's Chasm, Beauport, Ravenswood, Tuck's Point, Coolidge Estate, and Hammond Castle. Hammond Castle is that place Tesla would visit. Through Mark Twain Tesla met John Hammond Sr. Twain met him when he tried to help the creator of apartheid take over the Trans Val in South Africa and almost got hanged. While the father was recuperating,  John Hammond Jr. fell in love with the castles of England and in time would take pieces of ruins back to America to build his own from the profits of the inventions Tesla gave him to pursue, like radio controlled missiles. Then when Tesla tried to create free electricity the father help ruin his plans by investing millions in copper to create electrical lines for power plants.  This castle Tesla and Hammond would conduct psychic experiments in.

On another day drive up Rt #22 and visit Long Hill Gardens, a beautiful Georgian estate with a fabulous garden that will knock your socks off. How about a trip up Rt #97 and stop at a ruin across from the entrance to the Beverly airport built by Olmsted. On Rt #133 stop in Essex at the Flying Dragon and White Elephant antique stores, Russell Orchards farm stand, and Castle Hill mansion that has been in Witches of Eastwick and Ghost of Girlfriend's Past. Honestly the woods north of Salem are my favorite, maybe they will be yours too.

Probably not what you expected, but a definite good time!
